Bloemfontein – The Department of Human Settlements in Free State is doing everything but completing projects.
A few weeks ago, we reported on G-hostel in Welkom, despite the Premier committing that it would be completed by March 31.

It was followed by another incomplete housing project in Allanridge.
Again, according to Mathae, the project was supposed to be completed in April 2026.
Last week, we took a short left at Dark and Silver City Hostel in Magengenene, Mangaung. This project, according to Mathae, was supposed to be completed on March 31.
This is how it looks now.

A closer look at the information board shows that tender HS-B14/2023-2024 was a 12-month contract. The consulting engineer is LTE Consulting, while the contractor is RUWACON (PTY) LTD.
With the department’s budget depleted, it remains to be seen if this hostel will be completed, as there is no construction work on site.
We are currently auditing HS projects to see what the 2025/26 budget really did.
Up next on the agenda is Bethlehem.
In other news, Kopaong Local Municipality Executive Mayor Xolani Tseletsele will be attending women in Agriculture imbizo together with MEC Elsabe Rockman and Xhariep District Executive Mayor Irene Mehlomakulu tomorrow.
