Bloemfontein – With the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, expected to return dockets to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) on or before 15 June, all eyes will be on Advocate Eugene Ontong.
Only then will the Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions decide whether to prosecute or decline to prosecute.
This is according to Ontong himself, who was responding to questions regarding pending decisions relating to investigations into alleged crimes committed in 2024.

Although the Hawks confirmed that their investigations had been concluded as early as December 2024 and that the matter was awaiting an NPA decision, there has since been back-and-forth correspondence, with prosecutors requesting additional information.
Should prosecutions proceed, the Free State Provincial Government could soon have a new female Premier, with arrests expected as early as Friday, 19 June 2026.
This remains a developing story and, as the publication that first broke the news, we are following every development closely and on top of it.
In the context of cricket, this is how media houses will flood NPA offices next week.
