Bloemfontein – Former Free State Premier and African National Congress (ANC) Provincial Coordinator, Sefora Ntombela, has paid tribute to former Free State MEC and Member of the Provincial Legislature Thembeni Nxangisa, who passed away yesterday at his home following a period of illness.
Ntombela described Nxangisa as a dependable, humble and exceptionally hard-working leader who served both the ANC and the people of the Free State with distinction.
She said she had the privilege of working closely with him within the ANC and in government, where he held various executive portfolios, including Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) from May 2019 until October 2021, before being appointed MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development.
Following his departure from the Executive Council, he continued serving as a Member of the Free State Legislature till he was fired via WhatsApp by Polediso “50 000 Jobs For The Youth” Motsoeneneng, Provincial Secretary.
According to Ntombela, Nxangisa was one of the most approachable leaders she had worked with, always willing to listen, consult and find solutions that served the greater good.
She said he was never confrontational, dishonest or deceitful, but instead embodied the qualities of a disciplined ANC cadre committed to serving communities.
“The people of the Free State were yet to fully experience the depth, potential and pedigree of the leader he was becoming,” she said.
Ntombela extended her heartfelt condolences to the Nxagisa family, friends, comrades and everyone whose lives he touched, saying his passing was a great loss to both the ANC and the province.
She concluded her tribute by saying, “May his humble soul rest in eternal peace.”
Funeral and memorial service arrangements are expected to be announced by the Nxangisa family in due course as tributes continue to pour in from political leaders, colleagues and members of the public.
In other news plans are at the advanced stage to disband the Provincial Executive Committee. Insiders at Luthuli House allege the main issue is failure by the leadership. The Provincial Task Team will be led by Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae.
This move is likely to influence the outcome of the upcoming provincial conference ahead of national conference where Fikile Mbalula, Secretary General is expected to contest.
