Bloemfontein – Questions are mounting over nepotism and abuse of political influence after the wife and son of an ANC Regional Secretary were employed by municipal power utility Centlec.
Information obtained by this publication indicates that Alunge Pitso, the wife of Sabelo Nkosi, was appointed on 1 December 2020 as a Call Centre Enquiry Officer at Centlec. In 2025, she was promoted to a supervisory role overseeing general workers and cleaners.
Further more biological son, Neo Nkosi, was also hired in 2025 as a general worker at the entity.
Pitso’s influence goes way beyond Centlec and insiders at Mangaung Metro allege he also played a role in the appointments of the following employees at the Metro among others:
- Tshosane,
- Ntebaleng Leteno,
- Motampane
- Max Maine
- Nthapeleng Nthejane
- Mojanaga
- Lebusho
The appointments have sparked criticism from residents and political observers who argue that public institutions should prioritize merit, fairness and transparency in recruitment processes rather than rewarding those linked to politically connected individuals.
Critics say the matter highlights growing public frustration over perceptions that state and municipal entities are increasingly being used as employment channels for politically connected families while many qualified unemployed residents remain sidelined.
“This is exactly why the public has lost trust in institutions. Jobs are scarce, yet the same politically connected names continue to benefit,” said one concerned insider who requested anonymity for fear of victimisation.
The controversy comes amid wider national concerns over cadre deployment, patronage networks and the erosion of trust in public institutions meant to serve citizens equally.
Sabelo Pitso is not new to controversy, last year he was involved in a car accident next to Verkeerdevlei.
The car belonged to Government Garage and he was not supposed to be in it in the first place.
He is also fingered in Mangaung Metro Ghost Workers scandal.
Sabelo Pitso, Regional Secretary of ANC in Mangaung didn’t respond to our questions.
This is a developing story.
