BUSTED AGAIN: Motorist Arrested With Fake Licence Disc Fraudulently Extended to 2026

Staff Reporter

Bloemfontein – Traffic law enforcement officers have once again cracked down on fraud after busting another motorist using a fake vehicle licence disc during an operation conducted today.

The suspect was apprehended after officers inspected the disc displayed on the vehicle and noticed irregularities.

According to information available, the licence disc had been altered to reflect an expiry date of 2026-07-31, despite records indicating that it had in fact expired in 2023. The fraudulent extension have been an attempt to avoid renewal fees and law enforcement action.

Officers immediately impounded the vehicle and detained the motorist for further questioning. Authorities are expected to investigate whether the fake disc was self-made or supplied by individuals involved in producing counterfeit vehicle documents.

Traffic officials warned that fake licence discs deprive municipalities of revenue needed for road services and undermine the entire vehicle registration system. They added that motorists who use fraudulent discs risk arrest, fines, criminal charges, and the impoundment of their vehicles.

Law enforcement agencies have vowed to intensify inspections as more motorists are being caught trying to beat the system.

Today’s arrest sends yet another warning that document fraud on South African roads will not go unchecked.
