Bloemfontein – Mangaung and Lejweleputswa are among the regions that failed to submit names to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
According to insiders, only branches were able to submit on time, but a deepening crisis in the factions is emerging.
As things stand, the ANC is likely not to have candidates.
In the North West Province, a similar incident happened in the past and the secretary, Kabelo Mataboge was axed.
During its press briefing on Wednesday, the IEC confirmed that 2 274 candidates were captured on the OCNS but were not finally submitted by 5pm on August 28.
Of these, 480 were potential PR candidates, while 1 794 were potential ward candidates.
The commission, which was unequivocal about their status, said the affected candidates belong to 45 political parties.
“The Commission’s position is that, in practical terms, these potential candidates have not been submitted to the Commission and therefore are not in contention for this election,” it said.
In simple English, Mangaung Metro and Lejweleputswa are gone. the Executive Mayors will be from other parties.
This is a developing story.
