Bloemfontein – The African National Congress ANC) in the Free State has given Gregory Solomon Mosala Nthatisi, Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, the green light to dismiss City Manager Sello More.
This follows a previous report in which Nthatisi approached the ANC, calling for More’s removal.
Nthatisi has blamed More for poor service delivery in the metro.
Sources indicate that plans are already underway to redeploy More to the Free State Provincial Government as a Deputy Director-General (DDG).
The move is expected to set a precedent, potentially opening the door for other mayors to remove their municipal managers. It is understood that Malekula Molato, Executive Mayor of Maluti-A-Phofung, may follow suit by dismissing Municipal Manager Mzwakhe Mofokeng.
With few months left before local government elections, watch looting reach the highest point in municipalities to fund ANC campaigns.
Political analysts warn that such actions could entrench a pattern where municipal managers are removed when they resist political pressure, including interference in tenders or the employment of friends and family members.
