Bloemfontein – The African National Congress (ANC) in the Free State has dismissed claims of factionalism and the existence of two centres of power within the party.
Provincial Secretary Polediso Motsoeneneng has rubbished allegations that Premier Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae defied the party’s deployment committee, insisting that there is only one ANC structure in the province, led by Provincial Chairperson Mxolisi Dukwana.
Motsoeneneng made the remarks amid growing tensions within the party following leadership disputes after the national and provincial government elections.
WATCH:
Tensions reportedly escalated between Kaizer Sebothelo and Fidel Castro after Dukwana was sidelined when Mathae was appointed Premier.
Dukwana was subsequently excluded from Mathae’s executive council and instead appointed Speaker of the Free State Legislature.
Motsoeneng touched on the recent National General Council.
WATCH:
Mathae’s announcement of her executive council was abruptly halted just minutes before a scheduled media briefing, forcing her to postpone the announcement.
The internal power struggle has since shifted to the local government sphere, with battles for control now playing out at municipal level.
