Bloemfontein – Dihlabeng Local Municipality is hogging headlines for all the wrong reasons following an investigation by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), commonly known as the Hawks, into alleged unlawful increases in the stipends of interns.
Among the interns is Matebello Tseki, the younger sister of Tseki Tseki, Executive Mayor of Dihlabeng Local Municipality.
Another intern is CM Cilliers, the younger sister of Charlotte Cilliers, who works in Finance.
There is also Mpho Tshabalala and Mmanoyi Radebe, who are a daughter and relative, respectively, of Ouma Mofokeng, acting Manager: Human Resources.
According to insiders, interns earn R4 000, but somehow their stipends were increased to R10 000, prompting the Hawks to investigate.

The increment was allegedly supported by the Director: Corporate Services and approved by the Chief Financial Officer.
Ouma Mofokeng, acting Manager: Human Resources Management, did not respond to our questions.
We will follow up with the Hawks to establish the status of the investigation.
