Advocate Thami Litabe Dumps PACC

Staff Reporter

Bloemfontein – The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, under MEC Zanele Sifuba, is facing renewed controversy amid allegations of financial misconduct linked to a clap and tap event that reportedly cost R3.6 million.

This follows the resignation of Thami Litabe from PACC, just nine months into the new council term.

Insiders claim Litabe resigned after an altercation with fellow council members over payments.

It is further alleged that some council members, including an official in Sifuba’s office, are signatories on accounts and have been authorising payments to themselves.

Among those named is Lehlohonolo Mokoena, who will receive departmental backing of R500,000 for his event later in the year.

The department has previously faced controversy. It is alleged that bid documents went missing, with no one held accountable.

The Auditor-General of South Africa was also reportedly unable to audit the statues procurement process because supporting documents could not be located.

Other than that Winnie Madikizela Museum also brought another scandal.

At the time of the museum Mathabo Leeto and Advocate Humphrey Malakoane were MEC and HOD respectively.

Malakoane was even arrested for it although charges were were after three attempts by his lawyers.

A little zoom into their assets now paints a picture of how they roll.

Thami Litabe confirmed his resignation to this publication.

“I can confirm my resignation from PACC.”

When asked for reasons, he said his schedule had become too demanding.

“I am pursuing my PhD, practising as an advocate, and also lecturing at North-West University.”
