SPOTTED | Nthatisi visits landfill amid fuel price surge

Staff Reporter

Bloemfontein – Fuel price pressures are mounting after disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route, with the impact now being felt at local government level.

Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality, Gregory Mosala Nthatisi, was spotted earlier today conducting an oversight visit at the southern landfill site.

Landfills play a crucial role in environmental management. According to acting superintendent for Landfill Sites Management, Tshitso Mahatlane, the City operates a total of seven landfill sites.

At landfill sites, a single day can feel like a year. Tonnes of waste are deposited daily, and any delay in collection or processing places strain on operations and environmental health.

This is what happens at a landfills site.

Today’s visuals reveal a noticeable difference because waste is dropped every minute.

With diesel prices now sitting at R30 per litre, pressure on waste collection and landfill management is expected to intensify.

Nthatisi accused T Motsamai, a supervisor at a landfill of colluding and lying after he said there was work done on the landfill.

Motsamai was the second person to tell Nthatisi the service provider was working on the site.

Just last week this publication was there and this is how it looked.

This is a developing story.
