HIV and Health Infrastructure Prioritised in Makume’s Budget

Staff Reporter

Bloemfontein – The Free State Department of Health is set to receive the largest share of the 2025/26 provincial budget, with an allocation of R4.1 billion, as announced by MEC for Treasury, Ketso “Toto” Makume, on Tuesday.

This follows the State of the Province Address delivered earlier this month by Premier Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae, where key priorities for the province were outlined.

Makume highlighted that health remains a top priority, particularly in addressing HIV, strengthening health infrastructure across the province and training of personnel.

In addition to Health, significant portions of the budget have also been earmarked for the Departments of Education and Community Safety, Roads and Transport, reflecting government’s focus on improving essential public services.
