Bloemfontein – The community of Borwa in Tweespruit is battling a worsening water and sewerage crisis, with raw sewage spilling into the watershed while residents survive on barely an hour of water a day.
The situation comes hot on the heels of our recent report following the official opening of a R61 million clinic in Tweespruit—now only partially functional due to ongoing water shortages.
Residents say taps run dry for most of the day, making daily life unbearable.
During a drive through the area, this publication observed multiple sewerage leakages flowing openly through the streets and into the watershed.
One resident told us he was forced to flee his home in December, citing an unbearable stench caused by the overflowing sewerage.

Another resident said the crisis has dragged on for far too long and must be treated as an urgent priority.

With local government elections looming, the deteriorating state of basic services in Tweespruit is likely to weigh heavily on the minds of voters.
Residents want services, not food parcels that come once in a while.
PLOUGHING BACK
Thabang Tsoeu, chairperson of Economic Freedom Fighters in Tweespruit has blasted local councillor for redirecting money collected from construction of 708 between Hobhouse and Tweespruit for refurbishment of a local hall instead of sewerage systems.

He further blasted usage of Bloemfontein based company instead of local companies.
