Bloemfontein – The Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality is set to reconnect electricity and water as soon as Free State Provincial Government makes payment of R70 million and settling current bill.
The payment per arrangement will be split into two:
- R25 million for Centlec,
- R45 million for the Metropolitan.
This, after Centlec SOC disconnected electricity on Wednesday due to R200 million of unpaid debt, a day later, on Thursday, the Municipality disconnected water due to R1.3 billion of unpaid debt.
On Friday senior government officials met with senior officials from the Metro and it’s power utility.
A senior government official said electricity and water will be reconnected today.
“We have made great progress, letters have been sent and we just need to forward POPs then we are back on.
Electricity and water will be reconnected before lunch.”
In the mean time, officials at Free State Social Development are standing outside provincial headquarters unable to get into offices.
