Bloemfontein – The flooding crisis in Welkom over the past three weeks has once again drawn attention to service delivery failures in Lejweleputswa ahead of the upcoming local government elections, with Dr Igor Scheurkogel blaming financial mismanagement for the collapse of infrastructure.
Apart from the flooding, residents continue to grapple with sewer spillages, potholes, water shortages and electricity challenges, while allegations of empty promises against Executive Mayor Thanduxolo Khalipa surface.
In an exclusive interview with this publication at the landfill site in Odendaalsrus, Dr Scheurkogel said poor infrastructure maintenance remains one of the biggest challenges facing communities in the Free State.

He further said mismanagement of finance is what has killed Matjhabeng.
