SAHRC tight-lipped on inhumane conditions at farm school

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The South African Human Rights Commission in the Free State has remained tight lipped over inhumane conditions at Bainsvlei Combined School in Mangaung.

After being provided with videos and pictures for comment, the commission sent inspectors to the school, but they were taken to the girls’ hostel, which is in better conditions.

Minutes later, the commission was alerted that its findings would be based on the wrong hostel, while the dire conditions are said to be in the boys’ hostel.

With at least two reported food poisoning incidents, STEPUPSANEWS has it on good authority that pupils who attended a school camp last year fell ill.

A parent, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the hostel would one day “produce corpses” before authorities take action.

“The way things are at the school, we will soon produce corpses as a result of negligence.

Our children live in horrible conditions under a black government, but what can we do because we are poor and come from farms. They bathe with cold water, and it is already winter.”

In other news, Samuel Mokgobo, Chief Director District Management passed away.

Mokgobo led from the front in placing Free State Education on top of the value chain.

His death comes few months after Siza Mtolo, former acting HOD at Public Works and Infrastructure survived poisoning.

Thonoko Modise Provincial Manager of SAHRC in Free State had not responded to questions at the time of publication.
