Maseru – In a move aimed at empowering disadvantaged learners and honouring the legacy of Basotho founder King Moshoeshoe I, Princess Senate today officially launched the Shoeshoe Ea Moshoeshoe initiative at Maseru Mall, a campaign aimed at supporting underprivileged children in Matsieng and neighbouring communities.

Delivering the keynote address at the launch, the princess highlighted that the campaign seeks to provide much-needed assistance to disadvantaged learners, particularly in the form of school supplies and uniforms.

The launch comes a day before the commemoration of Moshoeshoe Day, a timing Princess Senate described as deeply meaningful and a source of personal pride.

She reflected on Lesotho’s bicentennial celebrations in 2024, marking 200 years of cultural heritage, unity, and perseverance, saying the milestone inspired her desire to further engage with Basotho youth through a social responsibility programme such as Shoeshoe Ea Moshoeshoe.

Princess Senate emphasised that the initiative draws inspiration from the values of her late great-grandfather, King Moshoeshoe I, whose legacy of peace, unity, and forgiveness continues to guide the Basotho nation.

“The guiding light for this programme is greatly influenced by the legacy of King Moshoeshoe I,” she said.

Among the campaign’s key objectives is the provision of school supplies and uniforms to underprivileged learners. The initiative will also support high school girls by providing sanitary towels and menstrual health support, a cause already championed by Queen Masenate.

The princess explained that the initiative is rooted in mobilising community support and building partnerships that focus on education and youth development.

She expressed hope that the campaign will attract partnerships with corporate organisations as well as support from the public through donations.

In her closing remarks, Princess Senate called on Basotho to embrace collective responsibility and actively participate in the initiative, particularly encouraging young people to support and contribute to the donation drive.

She concluded by wishing all Basotho a joyful Moshoeshoe Day tomorrow.

Members of the public who wish to contribute can donate school stationery, school shoes, uniforms, sanitary wear and other school essentials.

Donations can be dropped off at Maseru Mall and Pioneer Mall.
