WATCH | “Vote for the ANC” – MEC’s Partner Urges Citizens to VOTE FOR ANC

Staff Reporter

Bloemfontein – The partner of Free State Health MEC, Viceroy Mahlatsi, has publicly urged citizens to vote for the African National Congress (ANC) in the upcoming elections.

Elizabeth Setlai, who works at Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital, took to TikTok encouraging viewers to support the ruling party.

What raises eyebrows is that the TikTok account used appears to be linked to Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital.

Setlai previously made front-page news in this publication after her promotion. It later emerged that she is in a relationship with MEC Mahlatsi, a revelation that sparked public debate about governance, ethics and conflict of interest.

Despite the controversy at the time, no known action followed.

Our investigation found she is still a Clerk.

The Free State Provincial Government has, in recent years, faced repeated criticism over what opponents describe as a culture of impunity. In 2025, former MEC Mathabo Leeto was also implicated in controversy, yet no consequences followed.

Meanwhile, STEPUPSANEWS is reliably informed that certain service providers are being approached to contribute funds toward the ANC’s upcoming Fezile Dabi Regional Conference, as internal factions reportedly compete for influence ahead of key political processes.

This is a developing story.
