Bloemfontein – After months of relentless complaints about irregular and non-existent rubbish collection, the waste directorate of the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality has finally shown signs of action.
While consistency remains the real test, credit is due where it is earned.

In response to growing public pressure, the City initially partnered with Marumo Gallants in a clean-up drive aimed at restoring dignity to neglected areas. A week later, the municipality went solo, rolling out greening and cleaning operations at Navil Park.

The campaign then moved to the Rea Hola Complex in Botshabelo, where teams were deployed to tackle overgrown spaces and accumulated waste.

Another municipal team was dispatched to Section W, providing much-needed gardening and cleaning services.
WATCH
Following recent heavy rainfall, attention has now shifted to graveyards, many of which are overgrown and neglected.
Residents have called for urgent cleaning to restore respect to burial sites.

The renewed activity has been welcomed by communities, but residents insist the effort must not be a once-off public relations exercise.
Sustainable, reliable waste collection remains the expectation.
