Bloemfontein – More than 48 hours have passed since National Treasury released a list of municipalities that will have portions of their equitable share withheld in a bid to instil fiscal discipline.
The list includes 16 municipalities in the Free State, despite the ANC declaring 2026 as “the year of decisive action to fix local government and transform the economy.”
16 out of 21 municipalities represent 75% of Free State population that will be feel the wrath.
Mangaung, Letsemeng, Kopanong, Mohokare, Xhariep District Municipality, Masilonyana, Tokologo, Matjhabeng, Nala, Dihlabeng, Nketoana, Maluti-a-Phofung, Phumelela, Mantsopa, Ngwathe, Mafube
Yet Free State Premier Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae and COGTA MEC Teboho “Sulky” Mokoena are nowhere to be found.
He sulked in the ANC WhatsApp about his pictures not posted during campaigning at least we are giving him that attention weekly.
Anything that will have a camera and microphone they will always be found that’s how Sulky earned his name. Government of Ebumnandini this 7th administration.
Not a media statement. Not a press briefing. Not even the usual public relations interviews.
Their silence comes on the heels of the Constitutional Court ruling that ultimately led to the dissolution of Ngwathe Local Municipality, further exposing the deepening crisis facing local government in the province.
With local government elections fast approaching and service delivery virtually non-existent in many communities, the ANC appears to be facing one of its most serious governance challenges since the dawn of democracy.
As residents continue to wait for answers, the leadership vacuum in the Free State seems to grow bigger with each passing day.
This is what Dr Takisi Masiteng told Mathae in her face, in a meeting and he was transferred because politicians hate the truth.
