KuGompo – Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has been interdicted by the High Court in East London from making allegations that Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane fraudulently obtained or stole a Master’s Degree from the University of Fort Hare.
In a draft order issued on Monday before Honourable Justice Eksteen, the court declared the statements made against Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane “defamatory and false.”
The matter, heard under case number EL 2026-093607, further ruled that Malema’s publication of the statements was unlawful.

The court order restrains and interdicts the EFF leader from publishing or making any statement implying that Mabuyane stole or fraudulently obtained the qualification from the University of Fort Hare.
The issue of damages, apology and retraction will now be referred to oral evidence to be heard at a later stage.
According to the order, Malema was also instructed to pay Mabuyane’s legal costs on an attorney and client scale, including the costs of two counsel.

The explosive ruling comes after weeks of political attacks and public debate surrounding the allegations linked to Mabuyane’s academic qualifications.
