Hands Off!” Motloung fires back as MEC Mokoena storms into MAP drama

Staff Reporter

Bloemfontein – It’s war in Maluti-A-Phofung!
Mayor-elect Paratlane Motloung has come out guns blazing, telling MEC Teboho “Sulky” Mokoena to stay in his lane and stop meddling in municipal affairs.

This after last week’s explosive council showdown that saw former Executive Mayor Malekula Melato dramatically booted out of power.

Mokoena tried to step in, claiming the process that removed Melato was “irregular” – but Motloung’s legal team is not having it.

“The MEC must refrain from any further interference,” they warned.

The drama deepened after Speaker Mandlenkosi Dlamini had called for provincial intervention,

Mokoena insists the meeting was flawed, arguing that the Speaker didn’t preside over proceedings.

But here’s the twist, Motloung says the Speaker walked out mid-meeting, along with other councillors, leaving the rest to finish the job.

And guess what? They still had the numbers.
The meeting remained valid. There was a quorum,” Motloung’s camp fired back.

Now comes the knockout punch!

Motloung’s lawyers say Mokoena has no legal power to cancel or interfere with council decisions unless proper intervention processes are followed.

This is an unlawful intrusion into the municipality,” they said.
In short: hands off or face the consequences.

With tensions rising and political egos clashing, this saga is far from over.
