BREAKING NEWS | Motsoaledi demands answers from Viceroy Mahlatsi over appointment of a convict as CEO

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, has reportedly written to the Free State MEC for Health, Viceroy Mahlatsi, seeking answers regarding the appointment of a convicted fraudster, Zongezile Adam Zumane.

Zumane was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Senotita Nhlabathi Hospital in Ladybrand despite having served at least three years of an eight-year sentence at Grootvlei Correctional Centre’s Medium B section.

Sources allege that Mohlophehi Nkala, an HR representative, and Nkadimeng Mochoadi, chairperson of the selection panel, are now pointing fingers at each other over the controversial appointment.

At least two former cell mates of Zumane spoke to us and confirmed they shared cell number 7 with him.

MEDIA MONITORING
Sources suggest the development may have gone unnoticed without active media monitoring, a function critics claim the Free State Provincial Government lacks.

The Department of Health has previously emphasised its commitment to clean governance and accountability.

STEPUPSANEWS will formally request full details of the employment of Zumane as CEO of Senorita Nhlabathi Hospital from shortlisting to the actually appointment including minutes.

Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson for Department of Health and Nkadimeng Makhoadi, who chaired the panel have not responded to our questions although they both committed to respond on Wednesday and Tuesday, respectively.

Mvambi has a tendency of not responding to questions.

We sent him another set of questions about alleged theft of dental material at Pelonomi Hospital, where a dental technician was found with the material and got arrested by Mangaung SAPS, case number: 435/01/2026.

Department of Health is not only hiring convicts, it protects potential convicts.

Mvambi won’t respond.

This is a developing story.
