PSC report implicating late MEC and senior officials gathering dust

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The office of Free State Education MEC, Dr Maki “Mathlabs” Maboya has gone dead silent over the Public Service Commission’s report into irregularities within the department.

A damning report released in November 2022 with recommendations that disciplinary hearings, correction of irregularities has not been implemented by at least three MECs.

The department was given 60 days, but 24 months later, no action taken.

First by the late MEC, Tate Makgoe who was directly implicated, Makgoe’s successor Makalo Mohale also failed to implement the report in his 14 months tenure that started in March 2023 till May 2024.

Now the new MEC, Dr Maki “Mathlabs” Maboya has not done anything despite her office being aware of the report in question.

In fact, according to PSC response to our inquiry all reports were handed to legislature in January, this year. This means reports of all departments are in the legislature but the departments have copies.

On the 10 September 2024, we asked manager in the office of MEC, Doctor Tseeke these questions:

Has the MEC been appraised with the PSC’s report which was issued in November 2022, meaning in two months, the report will be 24 hours old.

Our interest is more on recommendations:

  • Disciplinary actions
  • Irregar appointments

Tseeke promised to get back and as expected, he did not.

The new MEC of Education is also implicated in the Mathlabs scandal which Auditor General of South Africa declared irregular.

Other than that, Maboya is allegedly meeting contractors.

She is not the first one but the question is why are MECs meeting contractors?

Mathabo Leeto did it, Makalo Mohale did (we have footage of it), Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae did it.

Dr Maboya was acknowledged in Dr Solomon Phera’s Phd dissertation as part of family, friends and colleagues, we are getting closer to link the two further on the alleged plot to use covert operation to monitor who our sources are.

Last month Teboho “Sulky” Mokoena asked the Premier to unleash law enforcement agencies to investigate those leaking government information.

We are 1000 steps ahead, on Monday we will let Solomon Phera taste his own medicine by releasing audio of a meeting held in his office.

Phera has failed to answer questions of PSC reports despite attending a meeting with PSC in May 2023 where he even made a presentation.

Only Masechaba Sesing has taken the PSC report to court after it recommended she be taken to disciplinary hearing together with three other officials.

Judgment has been reserved.

This is a developing story.
