Leribe – The 2026 edition of the Moshoeshoe Walk exploded into life as His Majesty, King Letsie III, joined thousands of hikers on day one of the historic journey.
The King arrived alongside Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso, sending excitement through the crowds gathered to retrace the footsteps of Basotho history.

Day 1
Among the international participants was American-born Calvin Christopher, who shared why travelling all the way to Lesotho to join the walk was important to him.

Three Malawian hikers also made the journey to participate in the event.

Botswana was also represented among the hikers, highlighting the growing regional and international interest in the Moshoeshoe Walk.

Before the official proceedings began, hikers entertained themselves with singing and dancing, creating a lively atmosphere.

Day 2
The second day started very early, with hikers braving downpours that persisted throughout the day.

With two days completed, hikers will on Saturday( tomorrow) embark on the third and final leg of the journey, which will conclude with a ceremony at Thaba Bosiu, the historic mountain fortress associated with Moshoeshoe I.
The ceremony is expected to mark the culmination of the journey as participants reflect on the life, leadership and enduring legacy of the Basotho nation’s founding father.
This year sanitary towels will be donated from the event.
