Bloemfontein – The convenor and coordinator behind the petition to have former Centlec employees to reinstated or compensated, and planned protest has been dismissed twice by the Mangaung based power utility between 2021 and 2024.
Jankie Mpholeng who is behind the protest aimed at reinstating or compensation of former employees and ousting of Malefane Sekoboto, Chief Executive Officer of Centlec, worked for Centlec and got dismissed on the 27 July 2021, and again on the 4 June 2024.
In 2021, Mpholeng was found guilty of “electricity theft” by the presiding officer S Sziswa and recommended dismissal.
In 2024, Mpholeng was again found guilty of “submitting a fraudulent letter aimed at misleading Centlec into reconnecting/replacing damaged meter box that was removed by Centlec revenue collection” at a house in T-section in Botshabelo by presiding officer, J Blair and recommended dismissal.
Mpholeng with support of South African Communist Party (SACP) in Caleb Motshabi district together with other former Centlec employees who were dismissed and those who resigned, will take to the streets on the 11 July 2025, to demand reinstatement or compensation and ousting of the CEO.
Asked if he is aware that bargaining council upheld dismissal of his former colleagues and at least one is facing rape and discharging of firearm in public charges, he didn’t respond to our questions.
