Bloemfontein – “The SAPS management sent numerous complains to National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure about the outsourcing”, said Jabu “Edgars” Mbalula, MEC for Community Safety, Roads, and Transport.
Mbalula was responding to a question from Democratic Alliance’s MPL, Dulandi Leech.
Leech asked Mbalula if he is aware of the condition of the facility and any steps being taken.
In response, Mbalula said the department is aware.
“Yes, the department is aware of the condition of the Ladybrand Police Station. Renovation project WCS 51846 was registered for Ladybrand Police Station in 2015 and the planning was finalised by Regional DPWI in 2016.
Funding was provided in 2017, but before regional DPWI could appoint a contractor their National Office outsourced the project to DBSA.
SAPS Management submitted numerous complaints to National DPWI regarding the outsourcing and the state of the management of SAPS projects which were discussed in a few site meetings.”
With regards to the status of the police, Mbalula said.
“However, little to insignificant improvement in the project management was achieved.”
Funding was provided in 2017 and to date, little to insignificant improvement. What happened to the money? You just can’t make this up.
The implementing agent is none other than DBSA, the same DBSA that appointed four companies outside Free State for Free State projects.
In the words of Pravin Gordhan, “connect the dots and follow the money”.
The conditions of the police station is appalling, our investigation into a child snatched in bed while sleeping with her mother only to be raped and left in the veld prooved how residents suffer.
