Bloemfontein – A school principal and district director in Fezile Dabi are accused of prioritising the number 1 spot at by all means including cheating by “blocking under performing matriculants” from writing final exams.
This comes at the time the quality of Free State results has taken the centre stage after coming second last in terms of bachelor passes, just above Northern Cape.
Overall, Free State retained it’s number 1 spot nationally by obtaining 91% but only produced 17 000 bachelor passes while KZN produced 84 000 bachelor passes.
A parent in Parys has come out guns blazing accusing a school principal and a senior manager (names withheld) in the department of oppression.
“Our children didn’t write matric final exams as they were regarded as under performing learners.
They want to keep number 1 in Parys and surrounding towns.
Principal and senior official want to keep number 1 in Free State and Fezile Dabi. “
In conclusion she said.
“Our kids spent 12 years attending school and they didn’t write.”
Ironically, both Joyce “Pretenders” Mathae and Dr Mamiki “Mathlabs” Maboya held a prayer session for matriculants in Parys late last year.
Howard Ndaba, spokesperson for Free State Education didn’t respond to our questions despite saying “working on the responses”.

I must say most schools in the Freestate are performing discrepancies or rather default trying to keep position one .Therefore our learners are caught up in the act. We as parents are dissatisfied .
Again learners marks are being fiddled with not true reflection especially Secondary Schools . I have filed for an appeal and my child since re- opening is not attending.
I concur with the above. In most schools it starts from grade 10.They don’t even consider progression of leaners to grade 12.Under performing students are advised not to write those subjects that they are underperforming and this learners end up not re-writing those subjects. The other issue is after grade 12,learners are left without any further assistance in terms of nsfas application and registration with various varsities and tvet colleges and most of them come from poor family backgrounds where they cannot even afford to buy data .
My son 2012 were given a report with transfer without me asking for transfer, on comments section this was written. M transferred to technical college. I took him to technical school today he has N3 Senior Certificate. I’m not surprised .
I experienced the same unfortunately my son didn’t cope and he end up using drugs due to stress for not progressing in education.
Truly Dept of Education needs to do something
My daughter and lil brother were forced to do math lit cause apparently they would take the school performance down,we were not allowed an opportunity to rather find tutors as remedials,they had to give up the subjects they loved because it would affect the school.

If Free State is cheating, I think all the provinces are doing the same. Maybe other provinces are doing it much more than the Free State because all the provinces have improved and some have registered a significant improvement.

The Free State Department of Basic Education have a cloud over it because as a SGB we reported Maladministration, Mismanagement, Fraud, Corruption, Inequality, Nepotism and some SASA Schedule 17 offences by teachers and against principal but No Investigation took place and our functions as SGB is withdraw because District Officials is protecting they own

I wouldn’t be surprised things that happen in that district are horrifying. They defend principals when they abuse their subordinates.
I’m glad his day has come. It’s been happening for years and I appreciate those parents who have come out boldly.
Yes, please help stop the corruption, then let us find a way that will enable our children start their school years in a language they understand- their home language – to give them a chance to do better in high school.

We need an investigation to be conducted, lot is happening in our schools.
We are poor people we expect our children to progress to grade 12 so that can help us after that by finding job but are being forced to remain at grade 11 unnecessarily.Free State number One is a fake check things properly .If a child didn’t perform as expected at grade 11 doesn’t mean is going to fail grade 12.Check grade 11 report it is unfair.
Check grade 10 and 11 report.In other provinces people who performed that way are progressing to next grade.this things started long time ago.Nkgopoleng Fezile Dabi please came clean.For a child to repeat is not a child’s play for that child and family.Do not force number one that way you are in turn destroying children for ever.stop that nonsense
This is heartbroken,selfish and ruthless to our own children who are trying to be better but blocked by those think government school belongs to them. Check Bloemfotein some woman principal in Batho location how she throw many kids out of school just to keep fake school performance under poor kids sweat. When she said they should go Tvet to study there was very painful because as parent u cant even afford to give your child simple R5 to eat at school how u gonna pay school,buy stationary? Department should understand even themselves in their work places dont understand same ways why presure to kids? Thats why we gonna end up having lots of ghaster in our societies. It’s not just about preventing underperforming matrix candidates from writing exams. Those under performers who actually do write the matric exam quite often find their marks wholly inflated by district officials- so as to get the score cards up. The whole thing is a fraud and brings disgrace upon millions of young children.
Great work from the Principle, why should we waste resources for under performing students. We are getting terrible students coming from High School. We rather have them repeat there matric than coming and wasting state resources for tertiary education. Now we have good systems in place and we as parents must abide by it. The teacher’s are better than parents knowing the capabilities of student’s.
My son was expelled to go home and remove beard. When he return only one hour was left for 2 hours paper yet allowed to enter examination which is unacceptable according to national examination rules. He failed grade 11 because of that paper. We struggled with him the whole of Dec holidays promising him we will file for an appeal. We filed on the 13th January but they created lies that it is not liked and their superior agreed with them even before they can hear our side of the story as parents. Indeed appeal is just a paper work. This year on the 31 Jan the very same learner was without a single classwork or homework yet expected to pass at the end of the year. That school reduces number of learners to grade 12 in order to maintain high pass rate while other schools has more than 200 learners.
I agree with the statements of parents above. Other schools work hard for their performance while others work hard to destroy future of our children. No one is allowed to expel a learner from school, they deprive learners rights to education and de moralised them.
This is so painful. ‘ Every child is your child.’ Why then play with an innocent soul with the desire to become a better adult. Do people know God who trusted them with these learner? What a disgrace (black man) People suffered,some died in the 50’s 60’s, some were separated from their families sent to Robben Island,
the generation of. The 70’s uffered and died. At least this you heard about 1976 uprisal!!!! All this means nothing. We’ll apart from you at least we thank God about educators who understand that ‘every child is your child’ produced many bachelors with distinct ion. By the way every month you getting paid with their parents TAX??? GOD IS WATCHING
I personally have been denied promotional post of Deputy Principal by the Director & his subordinates.
About Grade 12 results, this is been a trend long time ago & most of these victims are unemployable due to the fact that they don’t have Grade 12
