Bloemfontein – The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) affectionately known as Hawks can’t confirm nor deny if they are investigation the R10 million Free State Education spent on three events.
Details of the three events were revealed when Dr Roy Jankielson, leader of Democratic Alliance asked MakaloMohale, erstwhile MEC for Education.
According to the Internal Question Paper, the events were held on the 19th, 25th and 31st August 2023.
The companies that were appointed responded to RFQs and no according to the department and at least four companies belong to friends. How four friends received RFQS remain a mystery.
We showed three event promoters in Mangaung names of the companies that were awarded the jobs, the four companies in particular and they all said; “these are friends”.
“We know these guys, they are all friends, others work for Thabo*.”
Another events promoter said Thabo* started expanding his business empire after the three events.

Warrant Officer Fikiswa Matoti, spokesperson for DPCI said they mayneither confirm nor deny the investigation.
“We may neither confirm not deny existence of such an investigation.
Please note that, from time to time, the Hawks will update the public of any arrests or significant developments in ongoing investigations.”
