Bloemfontein – The department of Eduction in Free State is again in the spot light, not for matric results, Mathlabs nor Public Service Commission’s report that’s gathering dust but for allege abuse of state resources by Dr Julia Maboya, MEC.
This follows a trip Kwazulu Natal for a meeting with a representative from IDT on Friday, 13 September 2024.
IDC head office is in Pretoria by the way and a simple search online paints a picture of what IDT is:
The IDT is a state social infrastructure programme implementing agency handling over R5 billion worth of programmes focusing on schools, Justice, Welfare among others.
On the same day, 13 September 2024, the IDT tender in Free State was closing.

Maboya, allegedly attended a funeral in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday, 14 September 2024.
With the Hawks currently investigating Dibolelo Mahlatsi, Public Works and Infrastructure MEC, we asked Free State Education for comment and more importantly, if the trip to Kwazulu Natal by Dr Maboya was approved by Joyce Mathae, Free State Premier and if the funeral was included.
Below are the questions we sent and no response was received but when the Hawks send the same questions, they will be answered.
- The recent trip taken by the MEC to KZN, was it for Durban or Pietermaritzburg?
- Was it approved by the Premier??
- Did the MEC use a vehicle hired for work purpose to attend a funeral?
- If the MEC did attend the funeral using state resources, is that not abuse of state resources?
- How many people travelled with MEC?
- Lastly, what was the total cost for this trip and can the submission, invoices and payment of this this be shared?
- Which travel agency booked the trip?
It will be interesting to know why such a meeting was scheduled in KZN and on a Friday when IDT has offices in Bloemfontein.
