Bloemfontein – The communities of Turflaagte and Freedom Square in Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality will breathe a sigh of relief, with the sewerage not being spilled over the streets.
WATCH:
This follows a drive around Mangaung to check if service delivery is prioritized, upon discovery of a semi-ocean sewerage in Turflaagte and a leaking pipe with at least sewerage running for a good 1 km.

According to residents, this has been going on for years.

Sello More, City Manager for Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality said they have been given money by National Treasury to fix the pipes.
“We are busy replacing pipes on that side. The place was a temporary one, with pipes only fitted for a small community.
Now the township grew and pipes are small and overstretched. So the national treasury gave us money to work on replacing the piping system.”
About the company appointed More said.
“Benetexh is in that space appointed last year, the situation will be better after two years, but the work is ongoing.”
The municipality also faces challenges with water leaks with thousands of litres lost due to the leaks.

Last week, Greg Nthatisi, Executive Mayor of MMM launched Masuputsela War on Water Leaks.
