MAP gets a Mayor implicated in the AGSA and the Public Protector reports over qualifications

Staff reporter

Qwaqwa – The newly elected Executive Mayor of troubled Maluti-A-Phofung is no stranger to controversy.

Elected on Friday, Malekula Melato succeeded the erstwhile Executive Mayor, Masechaba Mosia-Lakaje following the interviews held by the African National Congress(ANC) highest decision-making body, the National Executive Committee established panel.

Melato is no stranger to controversy having been fingered by both the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) and the Public Protector of South Africa (PPSA).

A PPSA report in possession of this publication declared the appointment of Melato by Lesedi Local Municipality as manager: of special programs to be irregular.

According to the report, the position required a three-year qualification which Melato did not possess and the Executive Municipal Leadership Development Program she has is a short course and not registered on the NQF level.

This was also confirmed by SAQA that a court she did from February – October 2009 was just a short course.

Melato was again fingered in the irregular procurement for Mayoral Golf Day in the same municipality.

The AGSA recommended:

DPCI aka HAWKS to consider initiative criminal investigation and probe whether or not there has been a deliberate effort by Ms. Melato or any other person to misrepresent facts or commit fraud or forgery by way of creating the impression to the municipality that Ms. Melato held a degree in Bachelor in Administration as per her C.V when she did not possess such qualification.

Not a singe panellist of the ANC thought of bringing this up during the interviews or recommendation? ANC don’t seem to care about credibility.
