LISTEN: Tshabalala takes full responsibility of the Freedom Day event mess and another MEC goes MIA on the departmental event, will Dukwana act?

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The suspension of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC, Limakatso Mahasa over absenteeism at a departmental event by the Free State Province Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana might prove inconsistency with the Premier.

Mahasa who had asked the Head of Department, Steve Tshabalala to take the Freedom Day celebrations to Thabo Mofutsanyane was told by Tshabalala that Dukwana had directed the event be held in Botshabelo as he wanted it (Freedom Day celebration) to coincide with the program he(Premier) wanted to launch.

What’s interesting is that Mahasa sent at least two texts to Tshabalala on Thursday, 11 April 2024, and Tshabalala did not respond to them.

She sent another text two days later on Sunday, 13 April 2024 and this is where Tshabalala informed Mahasa of Dukwana’s directive.

Despite all efforts by Dukwana to keep Mahasa out of the picture, how then is he blaming her for his failure?

LISTEN: Tshabalala admitting transport was not booked.

Scrutiny to at least one government event this week, STEPUPSANEWS has discovered the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development ( DARD) launched HEMP MEGA PROJECTS in Springfontein, Xhariep and the MEC for DARD was missing in action, instead, the MEC for DESTEA, Thabo Meeko graced the event and even gave a speech.

The department had even designed a poster for this event.

Will Dukwana haul Mokoena over the coals as he did with Mahasa to show consistency?

Because events are now in thing, we will investigate how much the department spent on this launch and if any procurement processes were followed.

While at it, we will also check how quickly these companies are paid because payment is hurried for some of the service providers as they fund ANC’s campaign.

If the Hawks were serious about fighting corruption they would ask Treasury for payments made after the ANC’s rally in Qwaqwa and trace where the money went.

In other news, the department of Community Safety, Roads abd Transport will today convene adjudication of tenders that closed on Wednesday.

According to insiders this is done to ensure companies with ties to the ANC are appointed before new administration starts after elections.

The adjudication will also cancel tenders for Clocolan and Marquad construction because companies appointed are not linked to the powers than be.

On Wednesday, it’s alleged the MEC, HoD, acting CFO and Deputy Director: SCM met and they allegedly agreed Director of SCM must be not be part of any processes.

The deputy director who is now in charge was moved to SCM after the Imvelo cartel won the conference and the erstwhile deputy director was transferred because he is from Parys.

Another insider said the SCM Director was transferred in March to Fleet only to be brought back to SCM but redundant.

Police, Roads and Transport is the hotspot of things related to contravention of PFMA.

Last year the MEC and HoD of department of Community Safety had a meeting with contractors and threshers to terminate their contracts if they don’t plough back to the community.

This is a developing story.
