HOD and CFO devices among those seized by HAWKS in the Free State Housing department

Bloemfontein – The warrant of search and seizure that saw the HAWKS in Free State launch their talons on the Department of Human Settlement over alleged corruption and fraud.

This concerns Housing Financial Scheme to assist people who can not afford to buy houses.

According to Hawks spokesperson, Warrant Officer, Fikiswa Matoti, the search emanated after the department launched its internal investigation and referred the matter to Hawks and at least one person is on suspension.

According to the warrant of search in possession of this publication, the following offenses have/are committed:

• Corruption
• Offences related to the proceeds of unlawful activities
• Fraud
• Contravention of PFMA

The following names/positions were targeted in the search:

• Dineo Poone
• Benjamin Moshounyane
• Tshenolo Molatudi
• HOD Mosa Masemene
• Vusimuzi Rajuili
• Sue Seekue
• Kgonnye Motitsoe: Supply Chain Manager
• Chief Financial Officer
• Human Resources Manager

Insiders say staff members included other names of families/friends in the list.

It’s not clear how much the department suffered as a result.

Asked if the Hawks are investigating the alleged fraud committed last year in February when Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana’s signature was forged, Matoti could not respond.

To date, Free State Human Settlement remains the only department to have its former HoD convicted and sentenced to 15 years wholly suspended for his role in another corruption case.

The current CFO and Chief Director are accused in the asbestos case and they returned to their positions after the suspension was lifted. They are working on another asbestos project.

Another employee also implicated in the asbestos case remains suspended whike the two, are back at work.
