PSC probing Treasury CFO with Marketing Qualifications

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The Public Service Commission(PSC) has confirmed probing the qualifications of Adre Botes, Chief Financial Officer of Free State Treasury.

This probe follows a main complaint in which Botes, was accused of deliberately leaking recruitment information to Masechaba Sesing, Head of Department.

Sesing was already found guilty by PSC despite her efforts to block investigations on the recruitment interference, PSC recommended disciplinary action against Sesing, Botes, Mabilo and Mokotso.

Unfortunately for Sesing, there are two more probes still outstanding;

  • alleged backdating of Standard Back contract
  • alleged hiring of a fellow church mate.

Botes was cited as having leaked the information to buy favours from Sesing as the complaint alleged she didn’t have qualifications required for CFO position.

The Internal Question Paper (IQP) confirmed she has marketing qualifications.

We made a follow up with PSC on the status of the investigation into Botes and they confirmed.

“True. The PSC always exercise its powers and perform its functions without fear, favour or prejudice in the interest and maintenance of effective and efficient public administration and a high standard of professional ethics in the public service.

Once the investigation is completed the report will be sent to the EA for the implementation of the recommendations of the PSC.”

There is another employee at Treasury who is a deputy director with just matric, this despite the position requiring a three year qualification.

Her proximity to the Imvelo conference winner got her the job.
