MEC and Board fight over suspension of CEO

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The Member of the Executive Council (MEC) responsible Department of Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA), Thabo Meeko is allegedly embroiled in a fight over the suspension of Free State Liquor Tourism and Gambling Board, CEO, Kenny Dichabe.

Dichabe and the board have been at it for months filling the expulsion of employees implicated in the issuing of licenses that have now been revoked.

STEP UP NEWS has it in authority that the board suspended Kenny Dichabe yesterday and the MEC Thabo Meeko is trying to get the board to lift the suspension.

A letter signed by Board chairperson MJ Tladi placing Dichabe on precautionary suspension cites among others gross misconduct.

According to Tladi, Dichabe failed to implement board decisions.

According to sources with intimate knowledge, the MEC has requested a meeting and the board is not budging.

The Democratic Alliance ( DA) asked MEC Meeko if he had received money from Dichabe to renew his contract and Meeko denied that allegation.

This was in the Internal Question Paper (IQP).

Dichabe’s contract was renewed for 12 months.

This is a developing story.
