Media reports force ANC in North West to act against deployees

Staff reporter

Mahikeng – The African National Congress (ANC) in the North West province has taken a tough stance against its employees after media reports.

This is after investigations into at least 5 allegations leveled against municipalities in the province.

According to a leaked report from Louis Dirimelo, provincial secretary to Fikile Mbalula, Secretary General of the ruling party dated 10 April 2024, corruption, fraud, and insubordination are prevalent.

Dirimelo starts by stating the background.

“This communication serves to inform your Office about key decisions the Province has taken on several issues which may at the later stage be in the public domain.

The Provincial leadership has been inundated with several issues from municipalities that warranted immediate and decisive leadership. It is important to note that several engagements and consultations have been undertaken with relevant structures and individuals affected by the decisions.”

He then delves into matters at hand and what his leadership decided.

Matlosana Local Municipalities

“The leadership of the Province has received several media reports including documentary evidence pertaining to alleged corruption against some of our employees, in the main troika of the municipality. As part of establishing facts, the Provincial Leadership has convened both the ANC caucus and the troika of that municipality to establish facts.

What emanated out of that consultative process is that there are answerable cases to some of the allegations. The Mayor of the Municipality’s preliminary appears to be highly compromised by these allegations and there are some admissions he has made pertaining to the allegations.

DECISION

“On the strength of the above the leadership of the Province has decided that the Mayor Cde.James Ntsola must resign with immediate effect. This is to ensure that the name and integrity of the ANC are not put into disrepute.

The leadership further directed that the CFO of that municipality must also be put on suspension pending an investigation laid against her of malfeasance which also appears to be having serious substance.”

On Bojanala Platinum District Municipality

“In line with the NWC recommendations, the Provincial leadership will be implementing the decision of replacing the District Mayor of Bojanala, Cde.Matlakala Nomzamo with a more effective and assertive comrade.

The process is at an advanced stage where the Region has been mandated to furnish the Provincial leadership with 3 (Three) credible candidates to replace the incumbent District Mayor.

A proper political assessment has been made in this regard and the decision will be effected immediately after the general elections.”

The provincial leadership also resolved to expel a ward councillor, Tebogo Sepale who is facing sexual offence charges.

“This matter relates to a Councillor of the ANC who was found to have committed multiple sexual offenses including with minors also. The said Councillor has been incarcerated for over nine (9) months.

The Council of Matlosana has elected to stop his salary and he is still on trial whilst arrested. The community of Ward 25 has been without a Ward Councillor for 9 months, the municipality has resolved that 1(one) of the PR Councillors act in that Ward.“

North West and Free State municipalities were the worst performers according to the Auditor General of South Africa and the ANC in North West is doing something to fix the problem instead of blaming apartheid.

It’s not clear at the time of publishing if Luthuli House has responded.
