The Gupta family continues to turn NPA into clowns without lifting a finger

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The infamous Gupta family continues to turn National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) into clowns following another victory over assets last week.

The family was accused and painted as the leaders of looting in the State Capture Inquiry led by Justice Zondo.

Free State as the only province to be prominent in the commission was fingered and amongst others, was portrayed as the machinery of funding the family through various programs including Estina Dairy.

Current Free State Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana gave chilling testimony including how he visited the family while he was a Member of the Executive Council (MEC) and claimed, the family gave him R10 000 for fuel. The Guptas are yet to deny it confirm this.

Dukwana told Justice Zondo it was erstwhile Secretary General, Ace Magashule who took him to the Saxon world.

Following the appearances of those implicated, arrests were made and from there, it went south for the state.

The extradition of the Gupta brothers from United Arab Emirates (UAE) failed dismally, and the first state capture case collapsed even before the accused persons gave evidence because of the weak case, now just last week, the high court ordered all assets be returned.

In another twist, after having publicly announced Moroadi Cholota as the key witness in the case against Edwin Sodi, Ace Magashule, and others, her lawyers said she was not a state witness.

Now with another case going to trial on the 19 April 2024, the NPA is relying on the affidavit of the deceased person and they will argue that his evidence be admitted, another trial within a trial.

Will this be a whitewash?

With many accusing NPA and Hawks of arrest and investigate later approach and political influence, it’s becoming too hard not to believe this position.

In other news staff at Free State Social Development have written to President Ramaphosa and ANC Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula to intervene over what they allege maladministration.

This is a developing story.
