CFO with Marketing qualifications

Bloemfontein – The Internal Questions Paper of the second quarter of the sixth legislature has provided answers to the qualifications of Treasury officials including that of the Chief Financial Officer, J H Botes.

In a letter to the Public Protector in possession of this publication, the anonymous complainant asked Advocate Kholeka Gcaleka to investigate Botes qualifications as she has marketing qualifications as CFO.

The qualifications of Botes is also brought up in the Public Service Commission’s complaint as a by the way but the inference is drawn to the alleged favours she sought from the HoD.

In the main, the complainant alleged Botes rushed to Masechaba Sesing, Head of Department to inform her that the panel had recommended a candidate that she did not favor, and HOD allegedly immediately called other two panel members known to this publication to instruct them to reconvene the panel meeting and reconsider their decision.

The names of the two candidates have since been established, including the score sheets.

We can confirm the Public Service Commission’s report is out and it is with the office of the Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana but that’s a story for another day as we are still waiting for SAICA, Public Protector, and Auditor General of South Africa to complete their investigations.

We provided SAICA with additional documentation after we learned the batch Treasury submitted had few papers omitted.

We can confirm today that indeed, J H Botes has marketing qualifications as shared in the IQP by MEC Gadija Brown.

Brown was responding to a question from Democratic Alliance (DA) member of parliament, James Letuka.

Among the mentioned, Botes caught our attention as her qualifications have always been linked to the PSC and PP investigations.

According to Brown, Botes has:
Grade 12
National Diploma: Marketing (NQF 6)
National Higher Diploma: Marketing (NQF 7)
Certified Fraud Examiner (NQF 7)

Is Marketing a relevant qualification for a CFO?
