IMBIZO: “Sewer galore while taps are dry in Welkom” says a resident

Staff reporter

Welkom – Despite efforts by the provincial government availing resources to have potholes patched and cleaned as Matjhabeng welcomes ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa, “the sewer is the only water available as the taps are dry” says a resident.

Today, the ANC president will embark on an Ibizo in the troubled municipality at Kopano Indoor Sports Center.

The communities of Matjhabeng and Lejweleputswa in particular have for years been complaining about lack of services which led to a protest in Henenman and key among their complaints is lack of water, unemployment, rubbish collection, and of course, sewer.

Just streets away the sports centre sewer can be spotted and community members said this is nothing new.

“The whole of Matjhabeng is full of shxt, we breathe it and walk over it.”

Another said let us vote for change.

“These are the conditions we will forever live under as long as people are still voting for ANC 2024 let’s vote for change.

We don’t have leadership in the Free State at both provincial and local level so sad, and something just need an effort the money is there.”

When Free State Premier, Mxolisi Dukwana got into office he publicly, unprovoked said every Friday that his EXCO would embark on the Letsema project to clean municipalities and yet, they could not sustain it.
