Public Works employee involved in the unlawful R27m judgment faces the music

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The Public Works employee involved in the unlawful R27 million judgment is facing the music.

As previously reported, judge Daniso ruled in favour of V/A Consulting and stated that an unlawful act can produce legally valid consequences if not set aside.

This is after the department had argued the undertakings by both Khaya Radebe and Freddy Tlokwe on behalf of the department were not authorized.

Radebe was suspended last year.

Step UP News has been reliably informed that Supply Chain Manager, Khaya Radebe has been charged for his role in the saga after being suspended last year.

According to a leaked charge sheet Rabede is facing five charges:

  • Gross misconduct: dishonesty (fraudulent payments)
    Gross Financial Misconduct
    Dereliction of official duties.
Gross failure to corporate with legal advisors to defend litigation.
    Acting without any authorization.

Sources with intimate knowledge who spoke on condition of anonymity at the department allege the job given was outside the scope and not even close to R27 million.

At this stage, it’s not clear if the invoices were accompanied by portfolio of evidence as required.
