Mathae laughs last and the best as he leads ANC to an emphatic victory in by-elections

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – The African National Congress (ANC) chairman in Mangaung, Lawrance Mathae laughs last and best following the landslide victory on Thursday’s by-elections.

Mathae who lost the speaker position in March, shortly after ascending to the highest seat in the region following the conference has led the ANC to 4 by 4 as the ruling party retained all four wards.

In March the ANC expelled seven councilors which led to the by-elections and four positions became in wards 7, 29, 49, and 50 became vacant.

With this victory, the ANC has 51 seats in the council and is very likely to oust the DA’s Maryke Davis who defeated Mathae to the speaker position.

A source who spoke on condition of anonymity praised Mathae and said the ANC just like an ocean will cleanse itself.

“We are led in this region and the chairman is fully in control, we will get rid of all bad apples one by one.

Just like the ocean the ANC will cleanse itself.”

Another source said the Mathae-led administration was under pressure due to factional sabotage in the municipality.

“We all know the current infrastructure in the council is part of the previous regime that does not want to accept conference results and he’ll end up collapsing efforts to build and provide services.”

In conclusion, she said now it’s time for all hands on deck.

“The chairman must now up roll his sleeves and push everybody to work harder for this party, Mangaung Metro can’t be in this mess under his watch.”

In a statement the Provincial Secretary, Polediso “50 000 Jobs For The Youth” Motsoeneneng said the outcome is a testimony.

“We acknowledge the fact that the ANC’s leadership of our society rests firmly on our presence in all communities. We commit to do all in our power never to betray the trust and confidence given to us by the electorate once again in Mangaung. Yesterday’s outcomes are a testimony that the ANC lives and the ANC leads.”

In other MEC of Community Safety and Transport, MaQueen Mathae has been elected as Treasurer General at the ANCWL yesterday.

Mathae, Chairperson of ANC in Mangaung could not be reached for comment.
