Lesedi FM presenter fired!

Staff reporter

Bloemfontein – Hardly a year after joining the corner of Markgraaf and Kelner Street, Manneileng Letuka has been fired by Centlec SOC over her work at the SABC station.

Letuka was placed on a three months pre-cautionary suspension on 25 January 2023 and got sacked on the 14th of April 2023 for breaching section 71(1) of the ordinance of 1962.

“An employee may not be directly or indirectly in any personal or other matter during his official working hours, without the permission of the director personnel on the recommendation of the head of the department.”

At the time of her suspension in January 2023, Lele Mamatu, Centlec spokesperson said.

“Yes, she is on pre-cautionary suspension due to working at Lesedi FM and Centlec (getting both salaries). Please refer to Chapter 6 for doing private work.”

It’s not clear if she will appeal the sacking but according to sources, she did not attend her disciplinary hearing despite postponement after failing to appear the first time.

Sources said Letuka who was an engineering assistant at Centlec was permanently employed and was always on the radio between 09h00 – 12h00 while they on the other hand did the work.

In a similar case, a former municipality director of Moses Kotane in North West was arrested for taking a second government job after taking sick leave.

According to Captain Tlangelani Rikhotso, the Hawks spokesperson in the North West, she took two months’ leave only to work for another government department without the knowledge of her employer.

In other news, the Mangaung based power utility has won a case involving four employees who were promoted under an incorrect policy (Rapid Progression Policy of Mangaung Metro) in 2015 and it was discovered the policy was incorrect and promotions were reversed.

It would be interesting to find out how many more employees at Mangaung Metro were promoted under the same incorrect policy, a municipality of ghost workers.
