Ficksburg – The community of Ficksburg in Setsoto Local Municipality gathered out municipal office on Thursday, 11th April 2023, to commemorate their fallen soldier who was gunned down by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
In the 10 years commemoration,Step UP SA News team went to Ficksburg and residents painted the picture of how things have become worse, in the documentary Selloane Lephoi, an activist, and Motale Sebego, former provincial editor at SABC Free State explain what happened to Andries Tatane while Lucky, a local businessman, and Mohau Tatane break down the state of Ficksburg.

Speaking exclusively to Step UP SA News after the commemoration Mohau Tatane said the family is now focusing on Tatane’s foundation.
“Andries was killed live on TV and yet no one got convicted and now they are distracting us by coming up with rumors that people were paid to keep quiet.”
As a family we have decided to focus on, the foundation we launched after a successful launch.
The current situation in Ficksburg shows the provincial government has no appetite to provide service delivery and no amount of payer or church visits will replace incompetence.
Selloane Lephoi said Ficksburg is a pigsty.
“This year was particularly interesting.
Our current council is a fascinating mix of individuals who were councilors on that fateful day, as well as those who claim to have been his comrades and friends but failed dismally to stand up for him, his family, and the community he died for.
This same group has made it clear that Tatane’s name must no longer be mentioned in remembrance of that day but in moving forward.
What they fail to recognize is, on that day over 4000 residents marched and their demands could be quadrupled today. Ficksburg is a pigsty.”
Ironically COGTA MEC Tabled his budget vote yesterday while Hennenman continues to burn due to protests over service delivery, the department has been allocated R403 376 million and we hope to see changes because none of the 21 municipalities got a clean audit while 11 are dysfunctional.
In commemoration of Tatane, we will feature dirty, filthy, and potholed municipalities every week till the national elections.
In Mangaung Metro new, the Free State High. Ours will hear an application by ANC against both the Speaker Executive Mayor.
