With the festive season slowly creeping and the Free State province being very central, road fatalities increase and one hospital next to N1 plays a key role to save lives.
Earlier this we reported how the Department of Health had invested in Albert Nzula District hospital by capacitating it to carry Orthopedic patients lifting weights from Pelonomi Hospital.

Step UP SA News can confirm the Xhariep-based hospital has thus far carried out 119 operations from a target of 134 with 15 cancelations due to various reasons including patients not showing up.
In December 2021, Step Up SA News reported overcrowding at Pelonomi hospital that amongst others was dealing with alcohol-related injuries due to excessive alcohol abuse that led to violence and motor car accidents, these came as emergency cases superseding scheduled surgeries.
The Department intensified its effort to reduce high volumes of waiting times and on Wednesday, 23rd February 2022, the department opened more theatre space at the high-tech Albert Nzula District in Trompsburg where some of the orthopedic patients are treated.

Within eight months the hospital has operated on 119 patients and still counting.
Albert Nzula District Hospital’s, CEO, Dr. Mosebi Thejane said they can still do better.
“We want to increase our theatre days to twice a week if we get enough support”
Asked what his immediate challenge is he said:
“We are hoping for a theatre nurse, that will make a huge difference.”
In June Free State EMS received Emergency Bus.
