Following our article on Wednesday in which we reported the Drama after the Free State Provincial Government (FSPG) allegedly asked South African Police Services (SAPS) not to approve the request by Consumer Connectedness (C-2), a move that will compromise SAPS, there is now a new twist.
Step UP SA News has learned that there is another drama between Free State Rugby Union and C-2, as sources accuse the union of sabotage after C-2 made inquiries about the Toyota Stadium and requesting the quotation for the 9th of October 2022.
According to email correspondence between the two companies in possession of this publication, the oval ball union sent the quotation on the 1st August 2022 at 08h56 only to send another email at 15h05 stating the stadium is unavailable.
Both emails were replies sent bylaws C-2 on Friday 29th July 2022 which requested the contracts for the Toyota Stadium be amended.
The C-2 email read, “please amend the document for Corporate Village as follows:
- Please remove all wording in the document, you may replace it with VIP
- The VIP corporate village contract needs to be clear as what is in the quote because at face value its similar to the soccer ones
- Remove the expertise clause for ticket sales as tickets will be sold at C-Squared offices.”
The response from FS Rugby to this was an attachment and read, “See the attached is this what are you looking for? I am available until Wednesday this week for a meeting?”
A close look at the quotation shows an amount of R50 000 which is inclusive of R6 521.74 VAT.
One of the conditions in the quotation was to accommodate preparations due to the Toyota Cup Challenge matches being played in the week (5 October 2022) and also on Saturday, 8 October 2022.
It is strange that after all issues about the Toyota Challenge Cup were cleared Free State Rugby sent an email saying the stadium is not available.
Rugby plays on Saturdays and to say the stadium is unavailable when you have sent a quotation and given a condition to accommodate a cup is somehow very suspicious. In essence the stadium will not be used on Sunday for Toyota Challenge Cup and that is a fact.
Ronel Pienaar, Free State Rugby General Manager for Communications said there was never a booking.
“There was never a booking made. C-2 only enquired about the cost and availability of the stadium.
We mentioned that we were still waiting for the fixtures of the Toyota Challenge Cup, an annual international rugby tournament.”
Asked if the stadium is no longer available who will be using it she said.
“It all depends on the Toyota Challenge Cup Fixtures.”
With regards to the quotation sent when the stadium is not available, she said.
“This is a norm. Piet only sent the quote to indicate the cost to the event organizers and C-2 requested that he change “Corporate Village” (connected to Macufe)to VIP Village on the quotation. A booking is only confirmed once payment is received.”
With today being the closing date for all service providers hoping to get the slice of Macufe, the question is will they have enough time to secure venues?
In other news C-2 will be hosting Woman-to-Woman at the Old Grey’s Sports Ground on 27 August 2022 featuring Nondimiso Moh, Mafikizolo, Msaki, and others.
This is a developing story.
