With at least three provinces pushing for step aside to be repealed or reviewed, all eyes were on the ANC in the Free State Province to pronounce its position, and three days after the Provincial General Council there is dead silence.
Kwazulu Natal which held its provincial conference over the weekend made it crystal clear that step aside should be repealed and this view is supported by Limpopo while Mpumalanga has pushed for the ANC’s Achilles heel to be reviewed.
Interestingly it was the same branches that now want the rule to be repealed and reviewed that resolved it is important to fight corruption.
The Free State ANC held its Provincial General Council this past weekend at Ferdi Meyer Hall in Welkom themed “the year of unity and renewal to defend and advance South Africa’s democratic gains”.
According to the leaked program the ANC Free State wants the National Policy Conference which will be held this weekend to “deal with corruption and ethics” which includes how to strengthen and enforce “step-aside”.
It was Vusi Tshabalala, ANC Chief Whip who dealt with the elephant in the room by proposing that step aside be rejected.
WATCH:
Sources say Vusi was the first one to speak against step aside but his proposal was shot down in the second phase as he did not get support.
This pronouncement is very key considering Ace Maghashule, the suspected ANC secretary general is from Free State and what the province communicates will show on which side is the pendulum is leaning towards.
The upcoming National Policy Conference is likely to be turned into the National General Council which Ramaphosa’s distractors aim to oust him.
