Cutting Edge News, Real Stories From South Africa

WATCH: “I was accused of killing Noby Ngombane” says former Mangaung Mayor

Having disappeared from the political circle for over 15 years, Pappie Mokoena, former Mangaung Metro Mayor has returned to politics.

His return shocked many as he did not come back on African National Congress (ANC) ticket but as a leader of Afrikan Alliance Socialite for Democrats (AASD) and they have two seats in Mangaung Metro after the 2021 local government elections.

It was Mokoena’s party that sponsored a motion of no confidence against Mxolisi Siyonzana, Mangaung Metro Executive Mayor.  His party is seen as irritation and that’s not surprising considering that Mokoena was a Mayor and knows governance very well.

In an exclusive interview with Step UP SA News at AASD offices at the Mangaung Resource Centre, Mokoena expressed his disappointment at how the ANC let him down after his arrest in 2005. He was acquitted 7 years later in 2012.

Mokoena says he was a target from the word go and asked if he feels the state has failed his old-time friend Noby Ngombane Mokoena and put the blame on former president Thabo Mbeki for failing to institute a commision of inquiry.

Asked why ANC leaders could not help, Mokoena gave an analogy of eggs and says he was left home dry.

Mokoena revealed how his house was broken into and implicated in the murder of Noby through a mysterious letter purported to have been written by an inmate from Goedemoed prison.
