Cutting Edge News, Real Stories From South Africa

“ANC in Free State is exploiting us”, says a service provider

The African National Congress (ANC) in Free State Province is once again in the spotlight and this time, it’s accused by a service provider.

According to an employee of a television production company known by this publication, the ANC asked the company to produce a television advert for bi-elections in 2019 following the decision to expel 16 councilors in Maluti-A-Phofung Local Municipality.

BACKGROUND:

In 2019 about 16 ANC councilors voted with the opposition to oust their Executive Mayor, Vusi Tshabalala.

Initially, there were 16 councilors. But, 15 of them decided to go at it alone after failed talks with the ANC national executive committee members at the beginning.

The provincial executive committee threw the councilors out of the party, claiming they assisted opposition parties to remove then-mayor Vusi Tshabalala.

Something that now haunts the ANC Free State, after losing Maluti-A-Phofung and now sitting on opposition benches.

That meant the municipality will have to go to bi-elections and for that campaign, the ANC brought big guns hoping to win support.

In the TV advert Sefora Ntombela, Free State Premier, Thembeni Nxangisa, MEC for COGTA at the time, MEC William Bulwane, MEC of Agriculture and Rural Development at the time, and Montsheng Tsiu, MEC for Health all urged Maluti-A-Phofung residents to come in numbers and vote for ANC.

Speaking to Step Up SA News on the condition of anonymity for fear of victimization, the informant said the ANC is exploiting them.

“They needed our service in 2019 and we delivered but as soon as they had to pay they their attitude changed, ANC is exploiting us.

They showed us the middle finger.”

The ANC lost 10 awards.

The irony in the messaging is this is the worst municipality under the ANC and the leaders were promising things they failed to deliver since 1994.

Qwaqwa has been without water since 2016 and the less we talk about electricity the better but to understand what Qwaqwa residents have been complaining about look no further than stage 6 of load shedding.

Apart from water and electricity, the roads are horrible, and buildings built by the late TK Mopeli have been neglected so much so that even residents joke saying Qwaqwa must just be turned into one big farm with residents as farmers.

The two invoices in possession of this publication dated 23 August 2019 were sent to Malefu Vilakazi for R120 000 and it’s alleged they asked the price be reduced to R90 000 and the revised invoice was sent to Seipati Lebusa on the same day.

Only R40 000 was paid the rest remains outstanding.

It’s not clear why the invoices were not sent to the ANC but Municipality.

From 2010 to date Maluti-A-Phofung has had 6 Executive Mayors.

With regards to Municipal Managers, the municipality has had 10 municipal managers since 2001 to date.

The 10 in no particular order are:
Gerald Botha
Kenny Leluma
Madala Ntombela,
Charles Taetsane
Steve Kau
Robert Tsupa
Tseko Mothamba
Thabo Manyoni
Tim Mokhesi

This is beyond shocking OR Tambo people.

Oupa Khoabane, spokesperson for Interim Provincial Committee promised to come to us on 21 June 2022 to date we still waiting.

This is a developing story.
