Mxolisi wSiyonzana, the Executive Mayor of the Mangaung Metropolitan has survived his very first motion of no confidence which was tabled by the AASD, EEF and DA on Thursday.
The three parties brought the motion, claiming Siyonzana was responsible for the crisis the City Of Mangaung finds itself in.
The voting was allegedly done by show of hands so that Paseka Nompondo who is the IPC coordinator can see who votes for and against.

The erstwhile Mangaung Mayor, Olly Mlamleli was voted out by ANC councillors much to the anger of Thabo Meeko, the ANC spokesperson, and at that time in Maluti-A-Phofung the ANC councilors also voted their mayor out.
According to DA’s Mokgadi Kganakga, Fifty-three councilors voted against the motion and forty-five councilors were in the minority.
“It’s very clear with Paseka Nompondo’s presence during the voting for the motion of no confidence against the ANC mayor in Mangaung that the ANC has not resolved its factional battles.”
Asked why she thinks Nompondo Kganakga said.
“They needed to send a watchdog or a school principal to watch over the proceedings to protect the last ANC mayor. This city will ever have ever have. We are disappointed in the outcome but we will not stop serving the people of this city and putting their needs first,” she said.
COGTA intervention
Last month COGTA Minister, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma appointed the intervention team with COGTA’s Tebogo Motlashuping as acting City Manager for six months.
Among the tasks facing Motlashuping and his team is ensuring the municipality’s financial health and governance are up to scratch.
This came after the cabinet approved a recommendation by China Dodovu’s committee to place the municipality under administration.
Mangaung was placed under administration in 2019 and a recovery plan which would have helped the embattled municipality was never implemented.
The City is facing service delivery challenges with the city smelling like a pigsty due to rubbish failing to be collected by the municipality, water crises, and graveyards covered in grass to mention a few.
